On the way back from New Orleans yesterday, I made a small side-trip (just a few miles) off of I-10, and visited the cemetary where Mayselle is buried. The people there were nice and friendly, and found her site for me with no problem. It is a very peaceful and tranquil place, and unlike many of the cemetaries in the New Orleans area, most of the gravesites were under ground, so it didn't look like a town with lots of small buildings.

I did get some pictures, but haven't gotten them 'developed' yet - when I do, I will find some place to post them.

Ed - I'm glad you found it - can't wait to see the pictures. I've got a cuople of tasks that I'm going to ask you to take care of since you live down there - we'll talk more while you're here. Nice to see the family growing, isn't it?

Ed- I'm gald you found Mayselle's gravesite. I'm hoping that you will tell the rest of us where it is. You know..name of cemetery and section number and so on...Is this spelling thing something you and Mary really get into?? Cemetery right?? Couple ?? right Mary?? Maybe we just spell a little different up here in Mechigan

Actually, I am going to scan and post the interment record and a map of the cemetery, someday when I have one of those 'round tuit' thingies. (Which is not the same thing as a 'round Truitt', which is what I am Rolling Eyes )

Anyway, I'll go ahead and post the details here:

Garden of Memories, 4800 Airline Highway, Metairie LA 70001.
(from I-10, take the Veteran's exit, head toward Lake Ponchartrain (that would be North, I think) to Transcontinental Drive. Take a right on Transcontinental, take it until it ends - that is Airline Hwy. Be in the right lane, but make a LEFT TURN onto Airline, because the entrance is really close to the light.)

Her grave is located in Section I, Sq 10, Plot 11, Lot 3. It is 4 rows toward the office from the canal/ditch, and is the 26th grave from the street.

Her final GPS coordinates are: N 29deg 15' 29.0", W 090deg 10' 58.3 sec - + or - about 20 feet.

As I said, later on I'll have pictures and a map available.

As to the spelling, that is an ongoing joke in our family. Most of us (but nor all) are pretty good spellers, but to be honest the years of pounding a keyboard have taken their toll. Wink

Doug - As far as I know Mayselle is the only one there. She was still living in New Orleans when she died, but no one else from the Lawton side ever lived there, and Dad and Norman Sr are both buried in Houston. As for the spelling - Neal never could spell until spell check, but I'm fairly accurate - it's just my typing that is not very good. Laughing And with the casereading I do I've gotten used to reading all kinds of typos. Laughing

Is DAT Doug or is DAT Darrell (please excuse any misspellings) or is DAT someone else? I thought Doug was in (or near) Atlanta and DAT is not in Michigan.

Question Jabe

JB - DAT is a new - to us at least - Truitt. Our father and his were 1st cousins, but we lost track of all other Truitt branches about 70 years ago. I found him on the Internet about 1 year ago. DAT=Doug Truitt - confusing with so many Johns, Marys, etc to add another Doug, but he's a keeper!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of the Peterson clan!

Mary

Hi Mary (you are Mary Truitt aren't you?),
Thanks for dispelling my confusion, at least temporarily.
Regards, JB
