I wouldn't be surprised. After all, if you look at their web site http://www.beazer.com they have pages set up on this makeover, and one of them is a list of donors. At the top tier is their "corporate" employees, and a lot of their area operations also are listed on the page.
Put up a 5300 sq ft house in 5+ days for a family who needs it? As I said, you can't buy that type of advertising... not even on the Super Bowl.

This week's was a blast...a down on it's luck community got a little bit of a facelift...not to mention the house they built for the family.
Next week's looks really interesting as well...a house for a family whose 'man' was shot in the head and is now blind...

A very good episode... and as usual, a real tear-jerker.
This one, like a number of the other episodes dealing with folks w/ disabilities, had a lot of good info on the disability in question. And, a whole lot of what we call "Diversity Moments" where I work. I am looking forward to "HDTDT?" tonight.

Next week: an ordinary family without a sob story gets their house rehabbed.
You can then hear the crickets as the audience yawns.

I don't actually think they would do that. After all, who would want to listen to crickets for an hour

Did you know some of these projects are $500,000 projects? Talk about taxes.....

Both income and property taxes.
One gets a new $500K house and then later loses it to the state because they can't pay the property taxes or the resulting income taxes. Sounds fair!

I have heard that there has been a fair amount of research done, and that arrangements are set up to minimize (if not eliminate) the tax liabilities. After all, if not, then surely we would have heard about it on one of the news shows -- "poor family gets home makeover, then Uncle Sam takes it away" would have made for some good lead-off stories. Even better than Paula Abdul making out with that former AI contestant.

etee is correct...I heard they found a way around it but nobody is talking.
Last night's show was another tear-jerker...but in a different sense...and for some reason, the show really went quick...cannot wait to see the 'how we did it' tonight.

Last night's HDTDT? was quite interesting -- what really is intriguing is just how much they can get done in a weel. Not content to just do the house, they are now taking on other projects -- redoing the yards of the entire street, building a playground, renovating the living quarters in a firehouse -- how much can they pack into 7 days?

I'd love to know what it is. Think about it: if they can do it, you can do it too. Why not upgrade your home with your own money and not lose it to higher property taxes?

It isn't property taxes -- it is INCOME taxes, on the value of the renovation. That's what they are having to deal with. In some cases (in CA for instance), thanks to Prop13 the property taxes are frozen until the property is sold.

Ah, but in other states this may not apply.

"Audience interaction" -- I wonder what they are planning? Certainly they don't expect us to come through the TV and help out... Maybe it's a call-in pledge thing... As you said, it will be interesting to find out...
